This is a free event that celebrates the success stories of learners, recognizes literacy champions in our community, and raises funds to support our literacy programs. Hosted by Florence Simmons Hall with a catered reception, exceptional entertainment and a heart-warming awards ceremony, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

2024 Award Winners

Literacy Champion Award

The Literacy Champion Award recognizes a member of our community who has shown leadership in the field of literacy and lifelong learning and whose dedication has inspired others.

Krystal Dionne

Krystal is a Librarian with the PEI Public Library Service.

Educator Distinction Award

The Educator Distinction award goes to an educator who excels in meeting learners where they are at, seeing the best in people and supporting them to build the confidence they need to succeed.

Kelly Boyd

Kelly is a Teacher-Librarian at Three Oaks Senior High.

Learner Achievement Award

The Learner Achievement award recognizes someone who has applied hard work and dedication to learning on their learning journey as an adult who has gone back to school.

Parwinder Kaur

Parwinder is a second-year student working toward her diploma in Practical Nursing at Holland College.

Master Packaging Scholarship Award

This $1500 scholarship award is sponsored by Master Packaging and is available to students who have completed a GED to achieve their high school equivalency, and who are now entering first or second year of any full-time post-secondary program.

Louisa Mackula-Theriault

Louisa earned her GED and is now working toward her diploma in Bioscience Technology at Holland College.

Adult Learner Bursary Awards

Each year, we award $750 bursaries to adults who are working toward a grade 12 certificate or grade 12 equivalency (GED).

Bursaries will be awarded in February 2025 and recipients will be posted here.

Entertainment

Writer/comedian Patrick Ledwell has emceed the event since 2021.

Singer/songwriter/playwrite John Connolly provided musical entertainment for the 2024 event.

Singer/songwriter Meaghan Blanchard provided musical entertainment for the 2023 event.

Poet Laureate and musician Tanya Davis joined for our 2022 event.

Former Poet Laureate Julie Pellisier-Lush joined us for our 2021 event.

Hospitality

Our Celebration of Learning begins with a reception with delicious refreshments courtesy of Holland College’s Culinary Institute and Upstreet Craft Brewing. Many thanks to our sponsors for taking such great care of our guests!
