This is a free event that celebrates the success stories of learners, recognizes literacy champions in our community, and raises funds to support our literacy programs. Hosted by Florence Simmons Hall with a catered reception, exceptional entertainment and a heart-warming awards ceremony, this is an event you won’t want to miss!

2023 Award Winners
Literacy Champion Award
The Literacy Champion Award recognizes a member of our community who has shown leadership in the field of literacy and lifelong learning and whose dedication has inspired others.
Allison Giggey
Allison Giggey is a Teacher-Librarian at Queen Charlotte Intermediate School and President of the PEI Teacher-Librarians’ Association.
Learner Achievement Award
The Learner Achievement award recognizes someone who has applied hard work and dedication to learning in one of the PEI Literacy Alliance’s programs.
Vickey Peters and Santanna Herney
Vickey and Santanna, a dynamic mother-daughter duo, are both incredibly hard-working and inspiring graduates from our Essential Employment Skills program.
Master Packaging Scholarship Award
This $1500 scholarship award is sponsored by Master Packaging and is available to students who have completed a GED to achieve their high school equivalency, and who are now entering first or second year of any full-time post-secondary program.
Matt Perry
Matt Perry showed great determination and dedication at every turn in his learning journey. He is currently working toward his Bachelor of Integrated Studies at UPEI.
Educator Distinction Award
The Educator Distinction award goes to an educator who excels in meeting learners where they are at, seeing the best in people and supporting them to build the confidence they need to succeed.
Phil Davison
Phil has over 25 years of experience working at home and abroad in the areas of community development, adult literacy, policy creation and evaluation, and more.
Adult Learner Bursary Awards
Each year, we award $750 bursaries to adults who are working toward a grade 12 certificate or grade 12 equivalency (GED).

Writer/comedian Patrick Ledwell has emceed the event since 2021.

Poet Laureate and musician Tanya Davis joined for our 2022 event.
Former Poet Laureate Julie Pellisier-Lush joined us for our 2021 event.
